Professional Background

Laura is a very experienced and highly recommended barrister at Gatehouse Chambers, being consistently ranked highly in the legal directories since the start of her career. “Laura Tweedy is a real star. She is proactive and highly intelligent, with a marvellous combination of approachability and steely determination.” (Chambers and Partners 2024, Social Housing). “Laura is a tenacious litigator who leaves no stone unturned. She fiercely fights matters for her clients to ensure that they get the best outcome possible. She is very personable and easy to work with.” (The Legal 500 2024). She has litigated numerous cases to the Court of Appeal and has appeared in the Supreme Court.

Laura’s competency as a commercially minded real estate barrister with high emotional intelligence, combined with her interest in the most cutting-edge conflict resolution techniques, make her a first-choice mediator.

Mediation Experience

Laura is a strong favourite mediator for many Band 1 Property Litigation law firms and she won Newcomer of the Year at the National Mediation Awards.

She specialises in mediating commercial and residential property, development, social housing and private client related issues. She works domestically and with international parties.

She has a vast mediation experience including:

  • Commercial and residential dilapidations;
  • Boundary issues;
  • 1954 Act claims;
  • A wide range leasehold/freehold issues and disputes;
  • Neighbour disputes;
  • Landlord and tenant problems;
  • Commercial rent arrears;
  • Service charges;
  • Postmaster claims;
  • Alleged breach of contract/damages;
  • Social housing;
  • Student accommodation issues;
  • Disputes involving top insurers and top three supermarket leases.

She is excellent in assisting settlement in highly contentious, emotionally fraught disputes.

Mediation Style

Laura’s approach is modern and highly effective, consistently earning exceptional feedback from clients. Her positive and energetic demeanour brings a sense of ease to what can often be a highly charged and emotional day. She invests time in advance to  build rapport with the parties, ensuring a productive start. Laura combines pragmatism with a methodical approach, while remaining responsive to the unique needs of each party. Her ability to delve into the core issues provides the best possible opportunity for resolution.

Laura focuses on the interests and needs of each party to assist with finding the place where settlement might lie. She very successfully facilitates negotiation, moving parties away from a pure legal position to uncover what sort of deal might work. As a property barrister for nearly two decades, she is able to understand and discuss any necessary legal points. She deeply investigates the negatives of litigation with the parties, as well as assisting them to think of alternative settlement avenues that traditional litigation don’t allow.

Accreditation

Laura trained as a civil and commercial mediator with ADR ODR in 2018. In 2022 she also qualified as an arbitrator. In 2023, she was accredited as a workplace mediator with EM Solutions and in 2025 graduated as Digital Dispute Resolution specialist.

Laura has been selected to be mentee of the invitation only International Academy of Mediators, a world leading mediator membership.

She is also a member of the Civil Mediation Council, the London Chamber of Arbitration and Mediation and CiMAC (Cayman Islands mediation panel). She volunteers mediation services for Wandsworth Mediation Service (Commercial Mediator) and provides conflict resolution training in schools: Reflect behaviour intervention at Clapton Girls' Academy - Wandsworth Mediation Service and Reflect training at St John Bosco College - Wandsworth Mediation Service.
